I add, with regard to my own comment on this a few emails ago, and
in reply to Jennifer:
I'm
sorry - my comment was not clearly expressed. I do not assume or
argue that "positive benefits exist for all people who experience
an unwanted pregnancy" - clearly that isn't true. My point was not
about whether or not there was a loss to be compensated, but about
the offensiveness of the proceedings to the child and the law's
approach to the value of human life. Andrew Tettenborn referred,
in an email later in this discussion, to "the effect on a child
of court proceedings making it clear she wasn't wanted in the first
place", and that's what I had in mind.
And
of course I don't think men would be any less likely to see this
than women.
