Converting a chose in action; tortious wrongful interference with
a contract

The
English Court of Appeal recently decided an interesting case on
Receivers taking control and performing contractual obligations
and then finding out that they had not been validly appointed. Legal
issues of conversion of a contract right and whether there can be
wrongful interference even though the Receivers did rather well
(discussions of Torquay Hotel). Mance LJ, dissenting, has
interesting things to say about liability of an unauthorised agent,
although the majority view is fairly orthodox:
