There is a lot also about the case that assumes its correctness in Salmond 2nd ed 500-505, who while he might have been a fan of imperial union, was not that well disposed to the working class variety either. Interestingly Salmond remains it seems influential in the tort of conspiracy.

So I have always understood. He was however an enthusiast for the Anglo-Scottish Union, so in that sense at least he was a unionist!
